Our story
Founded in 1969, NL Construction has grown while staying grounded in the same values that built our reputation: integrity, accountability and craftsmanship. What began as General Construction Company evolved into the NL Construction you see today, still headquartered in Canton, Ohio, and still driven by long-standing relationships in Stark County.
As a family-rooted company, we believe construction is about more than buildings. It is about trust. Many of our clients, subcontractors and suppliers have worked alongside us for years, which gives us consistency, accountability and personal attention on every project.
We are large enough to handle complex commercial and industrial construction, and structured to stay hands-on and accessible. We approach every project, public or private, with discipline, transparency and a commitment to delivering on time and within budget.
With decades of public and private work in Stark County, we understand financial stability, safety standards and regulatory compliance, and we keep investing in continuing education, certifications and training.

Mission statement
“To deliver quality construction to Canton, Stark County, and Northeast Ohio with integrity, accountability, and craftsmanship — honoring every commitment we make to our clients, our people, and our community.”
Our purpose
What our mission means
For more than 57 years, NL Construction has been guided by a simple idea: a builder is only as good as its word. When we commit to a schedule, a budget or a standard of quality, we treat that commitment as the most important thing we build. Our reputation in Canton and Stark County was earned one project, one handshake and one satisfied client at a time.
Our mission shapes every job, whether it is a public housing renovation, a school district upgrade, an industrial facility or a commercial build-out. We plan carefully, communicate openly and stay accountable from the first estimate through final closeout.
The way a building is built matters as much as the finished result. That means respecting the people who occupy the facilities we work in, protecting the crews who do the work, and treating subcontractors and suppliers as long-term partners. Above all, our mission is a promise to the community we call home.
Core values
The values behind our work
Integrity
We do what we say we will do. Honest estimates and straight answers have anchored every client relationship since 1969.
Accountability
We own our work and commitments, and stand behind every project long after the final walkthrough.
Craftsmanship
Quality is built into every detail. Our crews do the work right the first time.
Safety
No deadline or budget is worth an injury. Everyone goes home safe at the end of each day.
Relationships
We build partnerships, not transactions, with clients, subcontractors and suppliers.
Community
We are a Canton company. Supporting local businesses, trades and families is part of who we are.
Our vision
Where we are headed
To remain the most trusted construction partner in Stark County and Northeast Ohio, known for the quality of what we build and the character of how we build it. We will grow thoughtfully, invest in our people and their training, and embrace new methods and technology without losing the family-rooted values that have defined NL Construction since 1969.

Our safety commitment
“No schedule, budget, or deadline is more important than the safety of the people who build, occupy, and visit our projects.”
Our safety record
Our Experience Modification Rate (EMR) is 0.47, well below the industry baseline of 1.0. A lower EMR reflects fewer workplace injuries and a stronger safety record.
Our philosophy
Safety is a shared responsibility
Safety at NL Construction begins with a belief that every incident is preventable. It shapes how we plan work, how we train our people and how we measure success, because a project finished on time and on budget is only a success if everyone who worked on it went home unharmed.
Our safety culture is led from the top and practiced by everyone. Leadership sets expectations and visits jobsites to reinforce them. Superintendents and foremen own safety on their projects every day. Every worker, employee or subcontractor, looks out for themselves, each other and the public around them.
Much of our work takes place in occupied facilities: schools, housing communities, offices and active industrial sites. We coordinate with owners to separate work areas, control access, manage noise and dust, and keep daily operations running safely around the construction.
